Join us every day Monday-Friday this half term (15-19th February) at 11am on Youtube Live where Amy and Anya will be delivering 30 minute activities to find out more about life in the past. Learn how to make a candle from animal fat, make your own quill pen and craft your own 18th century wig! These videos will be available on our Youtube channel if you want to re-watch any of the videos at a later date.
Stepping Back in Time: February Half Term Activities live on Youtube
Recommended audience: ages 7-12
Monday – Make 18th century ‘pound cake’ using an original recipe. You will need flour, butter, cinnamon, cumin seeds, rose water, sugar, eggs, nutmeg, a rolling pin, cookie cutters and a baking tray.
Tuesday – Make a Tallow Candle. You will need a candle wick, an empty tin (like an old baked bean tin – that would be perfect), beef fat (tallow)/ beef dripping (enough when boiled to fill the tin can, we would say 400g would be perfect).
Wednesday – Make your own quill. You will need a large feather, an inkpen nib, writing ink, glue (preferably a hot glue gun), acrylic paint and a paintbrush.
Thursday – Learn an 18th century song (no equipment required, just sing along!)
Friday – Make an 18th century wig. You will need a large amount of cotton wool balls (maybe 2 bags), glue (we recommend PVA glue), toilet roll tubes and a swimming cap/shower cap/pair of old tights you can fashion into a skull cap/wig liner/durag.
