Learning more about English radicalism, Dissenters and N16

Would you like to learn more about the historical roots of the local area?

The Newington Green Meeting House, which sits on the boundary of Islington and Hackney and is, surrounded by areas such as Dalston and Stoke Newington, hashave a nationally important history. Today the Meeting House is the home of owned and operated by non-religious church New Unity. – the non-religious Church, Bbut who congregated at the building before? Who lived in the local area and shaped what we have today?

In this talk from Mike Berlin, who teaches London History at Birkbeck University, participants will learn more about the building’s Unitarian and radical heritage, how global and national events were played out locally and where the tolerant, free-thinking and anti-establishment tradition we hold dear today stems from.

Come with your questions! Mike will be speaking for 45 minutes and then there will be 15 minutes set aside for you to share thoughts or ask further questions.
